PST Group is implementing one of the most technologically complex projects in the country — the construction of a low and intermediate-level short-lived radioactive waste repository. We are proud to be collaborating with the project's client, Altra, which is carrying out Lithuania's environmental megaproject. This project is an essential part of the national nuclear safety infrastructure. The works coordinated by Altra encompass the decommissioning of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, the safe management of radioactive waste, and the development of storage infrastructure. This ensures that Lithuania's future is safe, clean, and sustainable. We are pleased to report that works are proceeding according to plan, with some processes even running ahead of schedule.
Project scale in numbers: during site preparation, in the last week of February alone, 16 excavators, 36 dump trucks, and 8 bulldozers were operating on site.
Key performance indicators of completed works:
- 70,000 m³ of unsuitable soil removed
- 120,000 m³ of sand delivered for base preparation
- Storage areas for moraine clay — intended for backfilling the waste storage vaults — are nearing completion
In total, approximately 370,000 m³ of sand is planned to be delivered to the site.
Upcoming stages:
- Foundation installation for the main storage vaults and buildings
- Road and parking area embankment construction
- External water supply, stormwater drainage, and sewage network works
